Pinal Mountains

Highest Point

2392 meters

The Pinal Mountains are certainly a Sky Island, but whether they are part of the "Madrean" Sky Islands is debatable. They harbor ponderosa pine, white fir and aspen. Their affinity lies to the north away from the Madrean zone more than other southern Arizona Sky Islands. For example the lower flanks of the mountain are covered with interior chaparral, common in central Arizona's mid-elevations, but rare in Madrean plant communities.
