Bursera fagaroides is a dominant species in Sinaloan thornscrub of eastern and southern Sonora. It's northwest most recorded locality was a collection from the Baboquivari Mountains in the 1950s. It has not been found in the US since. In the late 1990s it was found in the southern flanks of the Sierra El Humo as well as in the Sierra San Juan south of Sasabe, Sonora.
