Burned out migrant vans, Sonora

I later read about the situation that caused this in the paper. Some smugglers didn't pay off the right people so all the migrants and coyotes got kicked out and left and the vans got torched.

Migrant van on Altar/Sásabe Highway

A constant stream of migrants travel this road, many on vans such as this. Around 2004 to 2006 seemed to be the height of migration with incredible numbers of people traversing this stretch of road every day. I estimated upwards of several thousand per day at the peak.

Every time a migrant van breaks down on the Altar to Sasabe "highway" it is turned over and torched!
