Oak Savannah

Oak savannah is common in the 4500-6000' foothills of many of the Madrean Sky Islands, especially in the northern part of our region. It generally occupies the zone above desert grassland and below full-blown oak woodland. Some people do not consider it a valid vegetation community. Many Quercus species can occupy oak savannah, but the most common species are Q. oblongifolia, Q. emoryi, and Q. chihuahuensis.
